GP3: Ghiotto sets early pace

Luca Ghiotto was the fastest during GP3 Series practice session at Silverstone. Driver of the Italian team Trident and championship leader set lap time 1:48.555 which was 0.700 clear of Emil Bernstorff (Arden International).

 

They were followed by Koiranen GP’s duo of Jimmy Eriksson, who was leading in the early stages of the session, and Matthew Parry. ART Grand Prix drivers Marvin Kirchhofer and Esteban Ocon were fifth and sixth, Alex Palou of Campos Racing moved up to seventh in closing stage, followed by Koiranen’s pair Artur Janosz and Adderly Fong. Matheo Tuscher of Jenzer Motorsport finished tenth.

 

Several drivers struggled with grip throughout practice session and one of the was Jann Mardenborough. Carlin Motorsport driver went into the gravel trap at Luffield and red flag was brought out for short, but Mardenborough quickly resumed session.

 

Status Grand Prix duo Sandy Stuvik and Alex Fontana also had problems. Stuvik lost the back end and spun and after that his car was catched by fire, while Fontana also spun on the entry to Stove.

 

Qualifying session of the GP3 Series at Silverstone is scheduled for Saturady at 9:45 CET.
