Rain is not a problem for Van Lagen

The start of the first WTCC Free Practice at Nurburgring was delayed due to fog, but when the 60 minutes session started, Jaap Van Lagen marked his return to the series after five years with fastest time.

After all-night long rain, the track was even more demanding, but LADA Sport’s driver was prepared for all the challenges and set a best lap time 10:17.982 in his Vesta TC1. That was just 1.451 seconds faster of his teammate Rob Huff time, while the third best result achieved Tom Chilton in Chevrolet RML Cruze, leaving Tiago Monteiro on fourth as a best Honda’s driver.

Stefano D’Aste was fifth, with Norbert Michelisz sixth after his accident on Thursday. Tom Coronel was seventh quickest, Sebastien Loeb was eighth and best placed Citroen driver. Gabriele Tarquini had ninth best result and Yvan Muller was 10th.

There was also few going out of track moments with Mehdi Bennani, Gregoire Demoustier and Ma Qing Hua among those who were caught out by the slippery conditions.
