Renault Sport Trophy: Steijn Schothorst again fastest in Elite class

The young Dutch racer Steijn Schothorst (Equipe Verschuur) once again managed to win the Elite Sprint race of Renault Sport Trophy. After a premier win at the Spa two weeks ago, Steijn was fastest at Hungaroring today. He won ahead of compatriot Roy Geerts (V8 Racing Team) and the Italian Vittorio Ghirelli (Zele Racing).

Steijn’s victory was very secure, he started from pole-position and increased the gap from lap to lap. After 16 laps, he won 10.2 seconds ahead of Geerts. Geerts started from the 4th place and jumped to second at the start, moving Ghirelli and Wolfgang Reip (Monlau Competicion) for one place down. From start to finish Andrea Pizzitola (ART Junior Team) stayed in the 5th spot.

There were some overtaking and interesting fights in the top 5 drivers. in the end, the most successful racer was  David Fumanelli (Oregon Team) who finished sixth, ahead of  Luciano Bacheta (Oregon Team) and Federico Leo (V8 Racing Team). Two more drivers in the points are Nicky Pastorelli (V8 Racing Team) and Indy Dontje (ART Junior Team). All thirteen drivers finished the race.

The Renault Sport Trophy drivers will have a long summer without races and after that three racing weekends in September. The first one will be at Silverstone (5&6 September), than at Nurburgring (12&13 September) and finally at Le Mans (26&27 September). Finale is scheduled for 17&18 October at Jerez.
