GP2 Series: Gasly heads Prema Powerteam's 1-2 at Hungaroring
Prema Powerteam driver Pierre Gasly is the winner of GP2 Series’ feature race at Hungaroring what is his second victory of the season.
Gasly started from pole position in the feature race and kept the lead after the start in front of his teammate Antonio Giovinazzi. Prema Powerteam drivers were at the top until the mandatory pit-stop. Raffaele Marciello later had an advantage of 20 seconds but he still had to complete pit-stop.
After the Italian completed pit-stop with 10 laps to go, Jimmy Eriksson took the lead but the Swede also had to pit. The tactics played a crucial role in this race and those drivers who opted to pit in the late stage were left short-handed.
In the penultimate lap, Gasly again was at the top, chased by Giovinazzi, but the Frenchman stayed calm enough to keep his position and score a second win in 2016 after which he became the championship leader. Giovinazzi finished at second place while Sergey Sirotkin (ART Grand Prix) finished third.
GP2 Series sprint race at Hungaroring will start on Sunday, 10:25 CET.
