Formula 1 US Grand Prix: Track record and pole position for Hamilton

The #44 Mercedes will start from pole position for 11th time this season in tomorrow’s Formula One United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. Lewis Hamilton smashed a track record, setting the fastest time 1.33.108, to take his 72nd pole position in a career.

After being fastest in all three practice sessions, Hamilton confirmed his domination in qualifying and he beats Ferrari’s Sebastien Vettel by 0.239 seconds. Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) and Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull) will share the second row, ahead of Kimi Raikkonen (Ferrari) and Esteban Ocon (Force India). Max Verstappen (Red Bull) was the sixth-fastest qualifier but he was among drivers who received grid penalties.

Carlos Sainz Jr showed great performance in his first race with Renault, finishing 8th in qualifying, ahead of Fernando Alonso (McLaren) and Sergio Perez (Force India).
