Leclerc wins accident-packed F2 race in Baku

The Prema Powerteam driver Charles Leclerc won the Formula 2 Championship Feature race at Baku City Circuit. The race was marked by numerous accidents before being stopped with five laps to go.

Charles Leclerc started from pole position for the fourth time this season with Nobuharu Matsushita completing the front row. The Japanese driver dropped to the P5 after being overtaken by Nicholas Latifi, Nyck De Vries, and Antonio Fuoco. Right after the start, the safety car was deployed when Johnny Cecotto Jr missed the Turn 1 and crashed.

After the restart, De Vries took the 2nd place from Latifi and soon after most drivers decided to go to the pit for tires change. Only Luca Ghiotto and Ralph Boschung stayed on the track when the virtual safety car was deployed after Nabil Jeffri hit the wall on lap 9. The safety car went out for the third time on the lap when Louis Deletraz stopped on track after touching the wall.

Nick De Vryes finished 2nd in the Feature race in Baku

Leclerc, who retired from both races at his home round a month ago, gained back the lead on lap 17 but De Vries was all over the championship leader. However, not for a long time. Leclerc quickly built a solid advantage.

Unfortunately, the race was stopped with five laps to go. Sean Gelael missed the Turn 8 and crashed, leaving no space for three other cars to go, what was the end of the race and Leclerc scored his fourth win of the season, while De Vries and Latifi finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.
