Rome ePrix: Mitch Evans gives the first Formula E victory to Jaguar

Mitch Evans (Panasonic Jaguar Racing) wins the Rome ePrix, the seventh round of the 2018-2019 FIA Formula E Championship. Evans is the seventh different winner in seven races of the season. It’s the first Formula E victory for Evans but also the first ever FE triumph for Jaguar Racing in the third season in the championship.

After 29 laps at the street circuit in the Italian capital, Evans defeated Andre Lotterer (DS Techeetah) by 0.979 seconds at the finish line. Stoffel Vandoorne (HWA Racelab) finished third, what’s the first podium both for him and the team.

Robin Frijns (Virgin Racing) finished the race in the fourth place ahead of Sebastien Buemi (Nissan e.dams). Oliver Rowland (Nissan e.dams), Lucas Di Grassi (Audi Abt Schaeffler), Jerome d’Ambrosio (Mahindra Racing), Antonio Felix da Costa (BMW i Andretti Motorsport) and Pascal Wehrlein (Mahindra Racing) completed the top 10.

The defending champion Jean-Eric Vergne (DS Techeetah) initially finished seventh, setting the fastest lap of the race, but he was penalized for overtaking under the yellow flag and dropped to P14.

Jerome d’Ambrosio is leaving Rome as new championship leader

Jerome d’Ambrosio took over the championship lead after seven races with 65 points on his account, just one more than previous leader Antonio Felix da Costa. Andre Lotterer is third with 62 points, ahead of Mitch Evans (61) and Lucas di Grassi (58). The leading team is DS Techeetah with 116 points, seven more than Virgin Racing. Mahindra Racing is further seven points down in the third place.

The next race on the calendar is the Paris ePrix, scheduled for April 27. It would be the fourth Formula E race in the French capital.
