James Hinchcliffe wins the Iowa Corn 300 at Iowa Speedway, the 11th race of the 2018 IndyCar Series. For the driver of the #5 Schmidt Peterson Motorsports’ Honda, it’s his sixth IndyCar victory in a career and the second win at Iowa’s 0.894-mile oval.

Hinchcliffe took the lead from Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden on Lap 256 of 300 and stayed in front until the end. He crossed the finish line under the caution, followed by Ed Carpenter Racing’s Spencer Pigot in the #21 Chevrolet. For Pigot, it’s his career-best IndyCar Series result.

The reigning champion Josef Newgarden was in the lead for most of the race (229 laps). He made a late it stop under the caution on Lap 297. There was no restart and he crossed the finish line in the fourth place, behind Takuma Sato (RLL Racing).

Championship leader Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing) finished four laps down in 12th place. His lead was cut off to 33 points over Newgarden. Alexander Rossi is third in the championship, 41 points behind Dixon.

The next IndyCar Series race is the Honda Indy Toronto, scheduled for July 15.
