Bird flew to victory in Buenos Aires
Sam Bird is the winner of the FIA Formula E Buenos Aires ePrix. DS Virgin Racing team driver scored his first victory this season after big battle with championship leader Sebastien Buemi in the late stage of the race.
Bird won pole position for the first time
Sam Bird won pole position after being fastest in the Super pole battle. That was the first pole position for the Briton in his Formula E career and also for first for DS Virgin Racing team. Nicolas Prost of e.Dams Renault started from second place, while the places in the row two of the starting grid were won by Antonio Felix da Costa (Team Aguri) and Stephane Sarrazin (Venturi). Championship leader Buemi made a mistake during qualifying and started from the last position.
Title contenders Lucas di Grassi and Sebastien Buemi had an excellent start. ABT Schaeffler’s Brazilian moved up to sixth, while the Swiss jumped up to 14th position after only two laps. Jean-Eric Vergne also did well being in the points zone after eight laps. He had food poisoning day earlier and it was a big question if he can drive in this race,
Da Costa out, Buemi unstoppable
Da Costa did some great maneuver in lap 13 to overtake Prost for second, but he was forced to retire five laps later after making mistake, while de Grassi sneaked to fourth place. Gaps between top three were very tight, they were within two seconds, and when pit window was opened, Sam Bird had to be afraid for his lead, especially knowing that Buemi already was on fifth position. Safety car was deployed and has closed the pack up, so in lap 22, after all drivers did cars change, we had almost new start of the race. In a menatime, Prost made a mistake hitting the wall, so he dropped to seventh. With 10 laps to go, Bird still was on the top of the grid, followed by di Grassi, Buemi and Sarrazin.

Buemi’s brilliant performance continued in the late stage of the race. In lap 28 he managed to overtake di Grassi and started to chase Sam Bird with six laps remaining. DS Virgin Racing driver looked calm and confident, and defended well in front of desperately aggressive Buemi. At the end, British driver scored his second Formula E victory, leaving Buemi on second and di Grassi on third.
Both Mahindras in points zone
Stephane Sarrazin finished fourth, Nico Prost was fifth and must be happy with that after accident he had, while the remaining points went to Loic Duval, Nick Heidfeld, Robin Frijns, Oliver Turvey and Bruno Senna, leaving Vergne out of points zone.
After four rounds of Formula E season two, Sebastien Buemi is on the top of the standings, Lucas di Grassi is second, while Sam Bird moved up to third. Next round is scheduled for 12th of March in Mexico City.
