BTCC - Brands Hatch: Two of two for Mat Jackson

Mat Jackson’s Ford Focus was unbeatable at Brands Hatch today. Motorbase Perfomance’s driver scored his second victory at Brands Hatch and fourth of the season in an exciting Race 2 of season’s finale. Tom Ingram in Speedworks Motorsport’s Toyota Avensis finished second, ahead of Adam Morgan, who scored second podium today. As in the first race, Jackson’s lead wasn’t under threat and he securely earned maximum points. Ingram started fifth and jumped to third in the opening lap. He overtook Morgan in Lap 14 but didn’t have enough speed to attack Jackson.

Behind the leaders, everybody was watching where the championship contenders will finish. Jason Plato in Team BMR Volkswagen started 8th, in Lap 7 he overtook Andy Priaulx and few laps later he passed his team-mate Aron Smith to sixth. Dave Newsham and Jack Goff finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Championship leader Gordon Shedden (Honda Yuasa Racing) started 13th and fell to 16th in the opening laps. In Lap 8 he had one point in his hands with 15th place, but after that he lost the pace and dropped to 20th. Colin Turkington stopped in the last lap because of a puncture and that moved Shedden to 19th place.

;

Shedden didn’t get any points and Plato got 10, so with one race remaining, the difference between them is 12 points – Shedden has 335 and Plato has 323. Drawn for reversed grid in Race 3 decided that Matt Neal and Jason Plato will share the front row at the start, while Shedden will start from 19th place. Championship leader Shedden is in a bad situation, but it wouldn’t be easy for Plato neither.
