BTCC - Silverstone: Mat Jackson celebrates after Race 1
Motorbase Performance celebrated its second BTCC victory of the season after Mat Jackson’s Ford Focus cruised to victory in Race 1 at Silverstone. Andrew Jordan finished second in Triple Eight Racing’s MG6 GT while Honda’s Gordon Shedden took third, extending his standings advantage over Jason Plato who retired on the penultimate lap.
Jackson’s Ford Focus flew off the line and surged into a two second lead in the opening laps as those behind squabbled for the remaining podium positions. Sam Tordoff was in the fight for a podium finish until Lap 17, when he had off-line moment which forced him tumbling down the order.
Dave Newsham scored his best season’s result and finished fourth. Power Maxed Racing Chevrolet Cruze showed podium pace but Shedden kept his Honda on the racing line and Newsham couldn’t find a way past him.
Colin Turkington’s and Aron Smith’s Volkswagens ran in tandem throughout the 22-lap encounter to finish fifth and sixth respectively. Rob Collard started from 12th and made a few nice moves to climb up in the order into seventh. Matt Neal, Tom Ingram and Sam Tordoff rouneded the Top 10.
