The Italian touring car legend Fabrizio Giovanardi is returning from a retirement and will race in the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup in 2018. The 51-year-old racer will drive a Romeo Ferraris-built Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR run by Team Mulsanne.

Giovanardi is one of the most successful touring car drivers in a history, with numerous championship titles on his account, including three European Touring Car Championship titles, three in Italy, two in Great Britain and one in Spain.

Giovanardi’s last full-season was in the 2014 British Touring Car Championship. After that, he appeared in one race of the Italian TCR Championship last year. Now, he is ready again for the full-time programme.

“Having Fabrizio with us is a crucial element of our programme. We have worked to develop the Giulietta and the positive feedback received from Fabrizio after the test in Monza has made possible to make this dream come true,” Michela Cerruti, Romeo Ferraris Operations Manager commented.

“I wish to thank everybody at Romeo Ferraris for making possible to reach an agreement. I was very impressed with the car when I tested it in Monza. For me, it is a comeback on the world stage after a few years out of racing, but my passion and greed for victory are intact,” Giovanardi said.
