Hamilton fastest in FP1

Mercedes has announced another good weekend as Lewis Hamilton set the best time in the first Free Practice of Monaco Grand Prix.

Reigning champion early recorded 1:18.750 which was just 0.149 better than Max Verstappen’s lap time. Toro Rosso driver had very good session just as Daniel Ricciardo who had third best time – 1:19. 086.

Sebastian Vettel sat on the second for a long time, but in the finish of the session he went down to fourth. Carlos Sainz finished fifth confirming Toro Rosso could be competitive, while Pastor Maldonado in Lotus had a sixth best result even after going off in Turn 1 just as his teammate Romain Grosjean who was 13th.

Daniil Kvyat was seventh with 0.159 seconds better time than Kimi Raikkonen on eighth. Nico Rosberg finshed ninth and Felipe Massa 10th, leaving Fernando Alonso on 11th. McLaren driver had a fifth best time in one moment proving that his team is slowly progressing, but Jenson Button missed most of the session after some problems with his car. British driver took a part just in the last 30 minutes of the first Free Practice.

At the bottom of the standings were Will Stevens and Roberto Merhi. Manor/Marussia drivers again were too far from the rest and for them will be a success if they qualify for the race.
