Indianapolis 500 winner Takuma Sato returns to RLL Racing for 2018
The 2017 Indianapolis 500 winner Takuma Sato has left Andretti Autosport and return to Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing for the 2018 IndyCar Series season. For the first-ever Japanese winner of the Indy 500, it would be his ninth season in the IndyCar Series.
Sato was driving for RLL Racing in 2012, after two seasons with KV Racing Technology. In 2013, Sato joined AJ Foyt Racing and spent four seasons with the team before he switched to Andretti Autosport for 2017.
Sato was the IndyCar race winner two times, in 2013 at Long Beach in the #14 AJ Foyt’s Dallara-Honda and then in May 2017 at Indianapolis 500, driving the #26 Honda. The season with Andretti was his best in a career, as he finished 8th in the points, but he left the team because they still haven’t a new agreement with Honda.
“I’m extremely happy to be back with RLL Racing. Bobby, Dave and Mike have always been very supportive of me. The team has been ultra-competitive the past few seasons. I can’t wait to be a part of it in 2018. I think we can achieve some great things together”, Sato said.
