Michelin GT Challenge at VIR: Wins for Corvette and Lamborghini

  • #3 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R at Virginia International Raceway

Corvette Racing’s Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia celebrated overall victory at the Michelin GT Challenge at VIR. The race at Virginia International Raceway was the tenth round of the 2017 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and it was reserved for GT classes only (GTLM and GTD).

Its’ the third win of the season for a duo in the #3 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R. They won the race with 12-second advantage over Chip Ganassi Racing’s Ryan Briscoe and Richard Westbrook in the #67 Ford GT. Risi Competizione’s Giancarlo Fisichella and Toni Vilander completed a podium, taking the #62 Ferrari 488 GTE across the finish line half a second behind Ford. BMW Team RLL’s Alexander Sims and Bill Auberlen were fourth, making it four different manufacturers in the top 4.

Corey Lewis and Jeroen Mul are the GTD class winners in the #16 Change Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3. They were one second faster than #96 Turner Motorsport BMW M6 GT3, driven by Jens Klingmann and Jesse Krohn. Jeron Blekeemolen and Trent Hindman finished third in the #33 Riley Motorsports Mercedes.
