Chaz Mostert leads 1-2 victory for Ford at Phillip island
Chaz Mostert wins the second race of the WD-40 Phillip Island 500 on Sunday. It’s another V8 Supercars victory for Ford at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit after DJR Team Penske’s Fabian Coulthard triumphed in Saturday’s race. It’s also the 1-2 victory for Ford as another Prodrive Racing’s driver Mark Winterbottom finished in the second place. Erebus Penrite Racing’s David Reynolds (#9 Holden) completed a podium.
Chaz Mostert scored his ninth win in a career and first win this season without any problems, On the other side, main rivals had lots of problems. All three Triple Eight Holdens were struck down by tyre failures, finishing 16th (Shane Van Gisbergen), 18th (Jamie Whincup) and 23rd (Craig Lowndes). DJR Team Penske duo Scott McLaughlin and Fabian Coulthard finished just 14th and 17th respectively after a troubled strategy and a pitlane penalty destroyed their day.

After two blowouts on Saturday, Chaz Mostert wins Sunday’s race
Same as the Saturday’s race, the second race was also marked by chaos in the opening lap at turn 2. This time, three cars crashed out, causing a Safety Car. The second Safety Car period followed in lap 24, to clear the debris from several tyre failures. James Moffat, Lee Holdsworth, Cameron Waters, Garth Tander, Dale Wood, Rick Kelly and Michael Caruso completed the top 10.
Fabian Coulthard remains in the championship lead, seven points ahead of Shane Van Gisbergen. Chaz Mostert is third, just 37 points behind the leader.
The next Virgin Australia Supercar Championship round is Perth SuperSprint, scheduled for May 6-7 at Barbagallo Raceway.
