Gold Coast 600: One more double victory for Red Bull Holdens

The Red Bull Holden Racing Team takes the maximum of points from Surfers Paradise Street Circuit by scoring two double victories at Gold Coast 600 event, the 13th round of the 2019 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.

Following the victory of Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes in the #888 Holden ZB Commodore on Saturday, Shane van Gisbergen and Garth Tander won a race on Sunday in the #97 Holden, defeating teammates in another Triple Eight’s car.

Garth Tander took the lead from Craig Lowndes before Turn 1 and the #97 Holden stayed in front until the end of the race. Two Red Bull Holdens crossed the finish line separated by 0.1746 seconds. Erebus Motorsport/Penrite Racing’s David Reynolds and Luke Youlden finished the race in third place in the #9 Holden.

Scott McLaughlin didn’t start the second race after a terrifying crash during qualifying

A weekend of maximum points moves Red Bull HRT to within 132 points of Shell V-Power Racing for the lead of the teams’ championship. the championship leader Scott McLaughlin didn’t start the race after a terrifying qualifying crash on Sunday morning. Another DJR Team Penske’s Ford Mustang of Fabian Coulthard/Tony D’Alberto finished just 11th, suffering from a lambda sensor failure that caused a long first pitstop, after which it was issued a 15-second time penalty for wheel-spinning.

The championship will resume with the Penrite Oil Sandown 500 on November 9-10. Scott McLaughlin and Shane van Gisbergen are the only two title contenders heading into the penultimate round but McLaughlin’s advantage of 463 points is only mathematically reachable. In the Pirtek Enduro Cup, Van Gisbergen/Tander are the leaders with the 36-point advantage over Whincup/Lowndes.
