2015 VLN 40. DMV 4-Stunden Rennen – main race
The second race of 2015 VLN Championship was held on 25th of April and as any VLN race so far, on famous Nurburgring circuit. During the morning hours of Saturday the 25th, practice and qualifying sessions were held and Bentley Motorsport team with Continental GT3 race cars proved to be fastest with impressive time of 8:18.892. With Bentley on the pole, there was a fight between Audi Team Phoenix and Aston Martin Racing for second and third place. However, Audi had a better time with 8:22.634 and Aston was almost three seconds slower.
Since the memories of tragic accident on first VLN Championship race of the season are still fresh, the drivers were careful and driving under a new set of rules. However, during this race, there was no problems or accidents worth mentioning. There was two small incidents, one with Porsche Cayman almost spinning off track and second with BWM 235i in BMW Cup, which hit the wall but the car and the driver are ok.
The most interesting thing about this race is Audi’s triumph and the brand new Audi R8 LMS Ultra on its first full race outing scored a fantastic 1-2 win for Audi Sport Team WRT with driver Christopher Mies and Nico Müller which piloted a winning #10 car. Their team-mates Laurens Vanthoor and Pierre Kaffer were right behind taking a strong second place overall behind the wheel of the #37 Audi R8 LMS. The third car, #11 placed tenth overall.
