Six hours of The Glen: AX Racing stops a domination of Taylors

Action Express Racing’s #5 Cadillac DPi wins the Sahlen’s Six hours of The Glen, the sixth round of the 2017 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

The regular full-time drivers Joao Barbosa and Christian Fittipaldi, joined by Filipe Albuquerque, rounded 200 laps at the Watkins Glen International to score their first win of the season and to stop a domination of Taylor brothers, who previously scored five consecutive wins in the #10 Cadillac of Wayne Taylor Racing. The brothers finished a race in the sixth place, three laps behind the winners.

JDC-Miller Motorsports’ #85 Oreca finished the race in the second place, driven by Stephen Simpson, Mikhail Goikhberg and Chris Miller, crosing a finish line just 1.183 seconds behind the winning car. The #55 Mazda DPi finished in the third place. The Mazda drivers who completed a podium are Jonathan Bomarito, Tristan Nunez and Spencer Pigor.

The #38 Performance Tech Motorsports Oreca FLM09 scored fifth consecutive win in the Prototype Challenge class. The drivers were James French, Pato O’Ward and Kyle Masson. They were seventh overall, one place ahead best-placed GTLM class car. It was the #25 BMW M6 GTLM of the BMW Team RLL, driven by Bill Auberlen and Alexander Sims. It’s the first win of the season for #25 crew.

In the GTD class, Andy Lally and Katherine Legge scored their second win in a row in the #93 Acura NSX GT3 of Michael Shank Racing.

The championship continues next weekend at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park with all four classes in the 2 hours 40 minutes long race.
