2019 IndyCar Series schedule: Less ovals, more road courses
The IndyCar Series calendar for 2019 has been revealed today. It features 17 races between March 10 and September 22, the same number of races as in the previous seasons, but there is a significant change when considering the number of races at road courses, street circuits or ovals.
The number of road course races is increased to seven while the number of oval races dropped to five. There will be also five races at street circuits. The ISM Raceway in Avondale, Arizona, dropped out from a calendar, same as the Sonoma Raceway. It opens places for two new events on road courses.
The one would be a race at the Circuit of the Americas and the other would be the Monterey Grand Prix as the season’s finale at Laguna Seca. For COTA, it would be a debut in the IndyCar Series. Laguna Seca is returning to the American premier competition for the first time since 2004 Champ Car season.
