The 2020 BTCC calendar is bringing some changes
In the middle of the 2019 season, the 2020 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship calendar has been revealed, bringing several big changes, including a new venue for the season-opening race.
Donington Park National Circuit will host the first round of the 2020 BTCC season on March 28-29, replacing Brands Hatch Indy Circuit, which hosted all but one season-opening rounds since 2006, except in 2010 when Thruxton was the host. Donington hosted Round 1 back in 2005.
In 2020, Brands Hatch Indy Circuit will host the second round of the championship but also maintains its traditional finals slot on the legendary Grand Prix circuit.
In keeping with last year’s decision to give some venues the chance to hold a second event in the same season, it has been agreed that Silverstone will host two BTCC events in 2020. The Silverstone National Circuit’s event would be moved from September to April, to serve as the third round, while Silverstone International will host the penultimate event of the season in September.
Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire, where the announcement about 2020 calendar was made, will move to a summer date in mid-August as the seventh round of the season. Thruxton, which has two events in 2019, in May and August, will maintain May’s event in 2020. The other three venues are Oulton Park, Snetterton and Knockhill.
“I’m pleased to confirm our calendar for the 2020 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship, which has a bit of a different feel to it for next season. As always, we take pride in confirming our schedule this early to allow the rest of British motorsport to plan theirs accordingly,” said BTCC Chief Executive, Alan Gow.
