IndyCar: Rossi wins at The Glen after taking his maiden pole position

Alexander Rossi converts his first pole position into his second IndyCar Series victory today at the Watkins Glen International in the IndyCar Grand Prix at The Glen. He was the tenth different winner in sixteen races this season.

A driver of the #98 Andretti Herta Autosport Honda was leading for 32 laps (of 60) to win the race ahead of Scott Dixon in the #9 Honda of Chip Ganassi Racing. Ryan Hunter-Reay completed a podium in the #28 Andretti Autosport Honda.

Helio Castroneves (Team Penske) finished in the fourth place, ahead of Graham Rahal (RLL Racing) and Will Power (Team Penske). Chip Ganassi Racing’s Charlie Kimball and Max Chilton ended in P7 and P8. Simon Pagenaud (Team Penske) and Carlos Munoz (AJ Foyt Racing) completed the top 10.

Josef Newgarden remains in the championship lead despite bad result

Championship leader Josef Newgarden (Team Penske) had a bad day, finishing in the 18th place, two laps behind the winner. For Newgarden, all went wrong after his pit stop on lap 45. While exiting the pits, he hit the wall and then Sebastien Bourdais hit him from behind.

The race at The Glen was the penultimate round of the season, with one more race scheduled at Sonoma Raceway for two weeks. Scott Dixon closes a gap to championship leader Josef Newgarden to just three points. Helio Castroneves is also relatively close, just 22 points behind Newgarden ahead of season’s finale with double-points award. Reigning champion Simon Pagenaud also has big mathematical chances, he is fourth with 526 points on his account.
