Hamilton snatches pole position in Brazil

  • Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton dominated in the qualifying for the Formula 1 Brazilian Grand Prix and scored 11th pole position in the season of 2016.

Hamilton was the fastest in the first qualifying round with a lap time 1:11.511 what was 0.304s better than the result of Nico Rosberg. It wasn’t a surprise that Mercedes again was dominant on the track just like it wasn’t a surprise that Kevin Magnussen, Felipe Nasr, Marcus Ericsson, Jenson Button, Pascal Wehrlein, and Esteban Ocon failed to qualify for the second round.

In the second round, the reigning champion again was the fastest, now with a lap time 1:11.238 what was 0.135s better than the time set by Rosberg. Surprisingly, both Williams’ cars were eliminated from the Q3. Esteban Gutierrez, Carlos Sainz Jr, Daniil Kvyat and Jolyon Palmer joined Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas in the paddock.

The last qualifying round wasn’t really exciting as Hamilton again was one to catch, now with a time of 1:10.736. Rosberg was only 0.102s behind his teammate while Kimi Raikkonen surprised many finishing 3rd, ahead of Max Verstappen.
