Hamilton routinely wins pole position at Monza

Championship leader Lewis Hamilton won the pole position for the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix at Monza circuit what is his 7th pole of this season. The reigning champion equalized the record of Ayrton Senna and Juan Manuel Fangio taking the fifth pole for the Italian Grand Prix in his career.

Mercedes dominated first qualifying round, with Lewis Hamilton on top with 1:21.854 what was 0.643s faster than Rosberg’s lap time. Esteban Ocon, Kevin Magnussen, Jolyon Palmer, Marcus Ericsson, Felipe Nasr and Daniil Kvyat failed to qualify for the second round.

Silver Arrows continued their supremacy in Q2 and Hamilton again was the faster than Nico Rosberg – 1:21.4988 what was 0.311 faster than the lap time of his main rival. Carlos Sainz Jr, Jenson Button, Pascal Wehrlein, Fernando Alonso, Felipe Massa and Romain Grosjean, who received a five-place grid drop after a gearbox change, stayed out of the last qualifying round.

Finally, in Q3 Hamilton confirmed his supremacy setting a lap time 1:21.135 what was almost 0.5s faster than the time set by Rosberg who will start from the second place. Two Ferraris will start from row two – Sebastian Vettel from third and Kimi Raikkonen from the fourth position. Valtteri Bottas took fifth starting place and is followed by Daniel Ricciardo, Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez, Nico Hulkenberg and Esteban Gutierrez.
